Seek a trusted adult's help if your teacher is not handling situations right on a regular basis. Focus on finding the actual cool and nice people. Right now you don't need the company of gossips or the people who take an interest in mean things that they say. In your mind, start regarding people who gossip as "dull". You natural preference is to work alone? Wow, lots of intelligent and hard-working people prefer solo projects, too. You need to cry? Do not let anyone make you feel bad for crying. Respect yourself and your feelings and preferences. It might take time to "like" having embarrassment stories, but laughing at yourself when it's possible might eventually help. They have the power to make people laugh (and maybe not right away in highschool but later) sharing these stories can actually help build friendship and trust. It will get so much better for you!! Here's my advice: I know it’s my fault for not socializing, but I don’t want to ever go back to that class. She was really nice about it, but I ended up crying in front of her anyway while her daughter (who gossips a lot) watched in the background. My teacher pulled me outside after class and tried to give me a therapy session.

I sat with my friend for the rest of the period but I think I embarrassed her because no one wants to be forced to work with the awkward, shy girl. She gave me a huge lecture in front of the class about how I have to be more willing to collaborate with others and the entire class looked at me, while I started half-crying. I tried working up the courage to ask someone else, but then panicked and ended up not doing it. I felt so awkward, and the only people I knew in the class were already working in groups of 3. I told her that I worked better alone, and she told me to go find a group anyway. She then came up to me and asked me why I wasn’t working with others. I only have one friend in that class, and other people seemed to be working alone, so I decided to as well. Today in math, we were doing a worksheet, and the teacher told us to do it in groups of max 3. I’ve had social anxiety for about as long as I can remember, and it’s always been a huge problem. I’m a 9th grader in high school, around 14 years old.
